Visas / DNV Renewal

DNV Renewal · UGE fees included

Renewing your Digital Nomad Visa? Spain will check your last two years, not just your contract.

Renewals look at your Spanish tax position, your Social Security and Hacienda records, your income and your insurance. If something slipped, we'd rather find it 60 days before your card expires than after. We confirm whether yours is a renewal or a first authorization from Spain, then file it for you.

For applications submitted through the UGE in Spain, the UGE fees are included. Consular fees are not, and are paid by you directly to the Spanish consulate.

Who it's for

Is this your visa?

A good fit if

  • You hold a Spanish Digital Nomad residence authorization or visa
  • Your TIE or visa expires within the next 60 days
  • Your Spanish tax and Social Security obligations are up to date

Look elsewhere if

  • Your card expired more than 90 days ago (talk to us first)
  • You never registered your activity in Spain (talk to us first)

Not sure? Your case manager confirms the route before you pay anything.

Everything in your fee

Most visa services stop at approval. We don't.

Stage 1

Before filing

  • Type confirmed: renewal (UGE-granted) or first authorization (consulate visa)
  • The 183-day check: your days in Spain, and what they mean for your tax residency and filings
  • Social Security, Hacienda and income records reviewed
  • Valid documents from your first file reused

Stage 2

Filing

  • Renewal file prepared and submitted to the UGE online, with your authorization
  • UGE fee included
  • Sworn translations up to €75 per adult
  • Help with your digital certificate (Uanataca video ID)

Stage 3 · After approval

The next stretch

  • New TIE appointment guidance
  • Next renewal window tracked
  • Long-term residence timeline mapped
  • We tell you when a tax advisor should take over

Honest note: biometrics and TIE fingerprints are in person. We tell you exactly what to bring, so you only go once.

Main requirements

What you'll need to show, and when to look elsewhere.

Main requirements

  • Spanish tax obligations met, as a resident or a non-resident. Our 183-day check tells you which you are
  • Social Security and Hacienda payments up to date, with autónomo registration if you're self-employed
  • Income still meeting the requirement, currently €2,849 a month for the main applicant
  • Valid health insurance and a clean record
  • Filed within 60 days before your TIE or visa expires

Probably not for you if…

We'll say so before you pay.

  • Your card expired more than 90 days ago
  • You spent most of the year abroad and never filed taxes in Spain
  • You worked as a freelancer without registering as autónomo
  • Most of your income now comes from Spanish clients

Type A or Type B

Renewal or first authorization? It depends where your visa was granted.

Not every DNV holder files a renewal in the legal sense. The wrong type means the wrong fee and the wrong documents, so we confirm yours before anything is filed. Both are filed with the UGE (Unidad de Grandes Empresas). We prepare and submit your file there with your authorization; we don't operate that portal.

Type A: Renewal

The UGE granted your DNV while you were in Spain, and you're renewing it

  • Legal classification: Renewal (Renovación)
  • UGE portal option: "Titular de Autorización de Residencia en Movilidad Internacional"
  • Fee: Renewal fee (Tasa Renovación)
  • Criminal record: not requested again, your TIE is uploaded instead
  • Filing deadline: within 60 days before your TIE expires
  • Spouse or partner: a sworn declaration (declaración jurada) that the relationship continues

Type B: First authorization from Spain

A consulate abroad issued your DNV visa, and this is your first residence authorization filed from Spain

  • Legal classification: Initial authorization (Inicial), even though it follows your visa
  • UGE portal option: "Titular de Visado de Inversor/Teletrabajador" (no TIE yet) or "Titular de Residencia en España" (with a TIE)
  • Fee: Initial fee (Tasa Inicial)
  • Criminal record: as in your initial application, plus your TIE if you have one
  • Filing deadline: within 60 days before your visa expires; filing straight after arrival is no longer allowed
  • Spouse or partner: as in your initial application

The permit

What it gives you

  • Permit granted by the UGE: a renewal, using your TIE instead of a new criminal record
  • Visa issued by a consulate: filed as a first authorisation, with the initial documents
  • Filed electronically, which needs a digital certificate (obtained online with a video ID check)
  • Spending more than 183 days a year in Spain makes you tax resident
  • If you filed in time, your status continues while you wait for the decision

Documents

What you'll usually need

  1. Passport and current TIE card
  2. Proof of your remote employment or freelance activity
  3. Remote work authorisation letter
  4. CV in Spanish
  5. Social Security or autónomo (RETA) registration
  6. Health insurance policy

Your dashboard gives you your own checklist, with instructions for each document. Requirements can differ per consulate.

Get started

The honest version

What we can't promise, and what we do instead.

We can't fix two years in two weeks.

If your tax or Social Security records have gaps, the renewal is at risk. We find them early and tell you when a tax advisor is needed.

Late filing is a gamble.

Up to 90 days after expiry is possible, but it risks fines or refusal. We remind you before the window opens.

The UGE decides.

We prepare and submit the file. We don't operate the portal and can't influence the decision.

Days abroad add up.

Under 183 days in Spain can change your tax residency, and with it what you must file. Check with your case manager before a long trip.

Questions

DNV Renewal questions

Something else? Ask us.

When can I file?

Up to 60 days before your TIE or visa expires. Filing up to 90 days after expiry is possible but risks fines or refusal, so we remind you before your window opens.

Is mine a renewal or a first authorization?

If the UGE granted your original permit, it's a renewal (Type A). If a consulate abroad issued your visa, it's a first authorization from Spain (Type B), which must be filed within 60 days before your visa expires. We confirm which before filing.

Do I need a new criminal record certificate?

Not for a Type A renewal: your TIE is uploaded instead. Type B follows the initial requirements.

Do I need to resubmit family documents?

Generally not. Spouses and partners give a sworn declaration that the relationship continues.

Why do I need a digital certificate?

Renewals are filed electronically. You get one through a short Uanataca video ID on a computer, with your TIE to hand. We help you through it.

I spent a lot of time abroad. Is that a problem?

It can be. Your days in Spain decide whether you're a Spanish tax resident (183 days is the line), and that decides what you must have filed. The renewal checks that your tax and Social Security obligations are met either way, so talk to your case manager early.

What does it cost, and when do I pay?

Two payments: the first when you sign up, the second once your renewal is approved. The UGE fee and sworn translations up to €75 per adult are included. Each family member is billed separately.
